The New England District Championship, hosted in West Springfield, MA, was a blast! Our team made it through round 3 of the playoffs and was the Alliance 6 Captain on the Newsom Field and ended with a record of 10 wins and 5 losses; The team also was awarded the Judges’ Award!
On The Field
In the pit, we did regular robot maintenance just to make sure that the robot worked properly for each match. For example, we tightened bolts that may have gotten loose, as well as changed the bumpers.
During a match, our drive team consisted of our veteran operator and technician, our first-year drive team driver and human player; and our mentor drive coach. During the match our driver navigated the field, moving towards ball piles called out by our drive coach and operator, all while our human player communicated the timing of the match to our whole drive team.
In The Stands
Even though we were competing against them, we worked together with FRC 1350 The Rambots from Rhode Island to scout qualification matches to allow our students to have longer shifts to explore the venue. Our teams worked really well together and the vibes in the stands were lively and exciting, even after 100 matches scouted.
In The Pit
As with every year, an entire building filled with games, companies, and 2 tables full of LEGO for people to play with. Our students explored this place and the other teams’ pits during their down shifts before heading back to the stands to scout. There was a station for cornhole boards where students from all around New England would play with and against each other, all in great fun.
