Thanks to the team’s hard work and determination, we were able to qualify and attend the FIRST World Championship, hosted in Houston, TX, for the first time in eight years! Our team was the Alliance 8 Captain on the Hopper Division and made it to the third round of the double elimination bracket. The team had a record of 9 wins and 4 losses overall.
During the match
On the field, we were on top of our game, scoring fuel as we hammered down on defense.
In The Stands
We scouted as usual, however, during Worlds we worked along with three other teams in the stands to collect data. Students worked with those on the other teams to gather information about the other robots on the field, which is what allowed us to strategize and get as far as we did. The experience of having to work with these people who you don’t know is a very common experience in the real world and workforce, so it’s also nice that students had that opportunity to work on their skills.
Between scouting or playing in matches, students would filter in and out of the stands to explore the expo center we were in. There were a number of companies (ones like Boeing or NASA) that had come out to the competition to showcase their work to kids looking to network. Many kids spent time looking for companies to talk to, and others tried to get to every food truck at the center. Students were surrounded by people from all over the world, and had the opportunity to meet new people from other states or countries.
